Originally from Greensboro, North Carolina, Kia was introduced to dance at age 2 where she fell in love with the dance floor. She continued to dance throughout her childhood as she was introduced to various dance styles and techniques. Kia has received extensive training in dance styles including Hip Hop, Ballet, Graham, Horton, Jazz, and West African. Kia is a high school graduate of the University of North Carolina School of the Arts from which she went on to continue studying dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. From there, Kia moved to New York City where she was accepted into the Ailey School for the Independent Study Program. While there, Kia had the opportunity to train with instructors such as Melanie Person, Earl Mosley, and Kevin Predmore. Kia has also trained at Deeply Rooted Dance Theater in Chicago, IL under the instruction of Nicole Clarke-Springer, Kevin Iega Jeff, and Gary Abbott, among others. Kia Charles now resides in Atlanta, GA where she continues to train in styles including, but not limited to Hip Hop, Jazz, and Contemporary dance. In addition to concert dance, Kia has also appeared in music videos and television shows, having recently worked on the HBO biopic, “Bessie”, and the upcoming film, “ Bolden!” Most recently, Kia performed on stage as a backup dancer with the classic 90’s R&B trio, Bell Biv Devoe. In addition to dancing, Kia is actively working to hone various other skills including acting, modeling, and hosting.
